IPFW ENROLLMENT AT NEAR-RECORD LEVEL

(Fort Wayne, Jan. 25, 2008) -- IPFW enrollment for the spring semester increased by 2.5 percent to 11,239. This is the second largest spring semester total in IPFW's history and is just below the record of 11,267 reached in 1992. Total credit hours, which reflect enrollments in courses and are used to calculate the university's state funding, increased 3.4 percent to a record total of 115,934. IPFW enrollment numbers were released earlier today by Jack C. Dahl, associate vice chancellor for institutional research and planning.

Freshman and sophomore enrollments were slightly below last year's levels. Junior, senior, and graduate student enrollments all increased. Minority student enrollments increased from 1,155 to 1,218.

Enrollment in the Department of Music, which moved into the new John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center last fall, increased by 20 percent. Other programs with large increases were engineering, general studies, hospitality management, human services, philosophy, and graduate programs in counseling and special education.

Chancellor Michael Wartell commented that "We are pleased that students are recognizing the wide range of high quality programs that IPFW provides. Based on the popularity of IPFW's student housing, we are now planning for the next phase. This will be an important part of our efforts to prepare graduates for the northeast Indiana workforce."
