Second Annual Irish Immersion Festival

(Fort Wayne, Jan. 15, 2008) -- Experience Ireland in Fort Wayne through music, history, and culture. Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and IPFW's Omicron-Psi will host the Irish Immersion Festival Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25 and 26. The festival kick-off party is Friday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at J.K. ODonnell's (121 W. Wayne St.). The celebration continues Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. in the IPFW John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center. The event is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted at the door.

Festival participants will experience music from eight bands, including The Firestarters, Mother Grove, Mimi Burns Band, and Kennedy's Kitchen, and entertainment from professional Irish dancers. The festival also includes workshops on Irish history, religion, the Irish-American Connection, the Irish language, and how to use the Bodhran Drum. Children can also participate at the children's centre, where they will join in Irish activities led by IPFW Department of Education students. Saturday, 35 vendors will sell all types of merchandise and food.

The Irish Immersion Festival is a benefit event that entertains and educates people while supporting agencies that bring restoration and reconciliation to families in Fort Wayne and the North of Ireland. The Fort Wayne Center for Non-Violence will benefit locally and Eagle Creek, a restoration and reconciliation center in the North of Ireland, will benefit internationally.

For more information on the Irish Immersion Festival, contact Caoimhe McNeil, president of Omicron-Psi Honor Society, at 260-438-9598 or Caoimhe.McNeil@gmail.com.
