See and Study Rome this Summer
(Fort Wayne, Feb. 13, 2008) -- Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) is offering an opportunity to visit Rome, Italy, to anyone from the campus or community at large. Rome, Italy: Art, Architecture and Design, is a 14-day study tour of Rome, Italy, sponsored by the IPFW Interior Design program. Travel for pleasure or gain three college credits, July 721, 2008. Costs are $3,725 which includes round-trip airfare from Fort Wayne, lodging on the beautiful Aventine Hill, all travel and entrance fees in Italy, weekday meals, and basic medical insurance. Deposit is due by March 15. Tour size is limited.
You can explore the secret rooms in the mausoleum of the Roman Emperors, or wander the halls of Renaissance palaces with an interior designer. Other course highlights include tours of the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, St. Peter's Basilica, Sistine Chapel, baroque gardens, churches, and piazzas. Tours outside Rome include a visit to the gardens of Villa d'Este in Tivoli and a tour of the excavations of the port city Ostia Antica. Free days allow for individual tours.
Traveling through IPFW-sponsored study tours is a great way to get more for your travel dollar. The instructors provide personal attention throughout the trip along with specialized knowledge in art and architecture history, interior design, and archaeology. Past travelers have enjoyed picnics in the Roman Forum, explored the excavations under St. Peter's Basilica, and in 2006 helped 500,000 happy Romans celebrate the Italian victory in the Soccer World Cup in the ancient Circus Maximus. The trip is for adventurers of all ages, previously ranging from 15 to 70.
Tour leader and instructor Matthew Kubik, associate professor of interior design at IPFW, is leading his seventeenth Rome travel course. Instructor Thomas Farney teaches courses in design history at IPFW and is an architect with Grinsfelder Associates.
