IPFW Reaches Out to University Devastated by Tornado

(Fort Wayne, Feb. 12, 2008) -- In February, the campus of Union University in Jackson, Ten., was hit by an F4-level tornado. In an effort to reach out to the university and its students, the Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Office of Student Affairs is sponsoring a relief drive.

Union University officials have stated the biggest need is gift cards to Wal-Mart, where students can purchase a variety of supplies. Donations are being accepted in the following locations on the IPFW campus: Cole Commons on the Waterfield Campus; Kettler Hall information desk; Neff Hall first floor; the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, Walb Union Room 118; Engineering Building near Higher Grounds; and Gates Sports Center.

The Union University residence halls, which were filled with residents at the time the tornado hit, were especially ravaged. Students living on campus lost almost everything. They currently are living in local shelters, churches, and homes and are counting on the supplies provided by aid organizations and donations.
