Summer Bridge Program Celebrates Successful Season

(Fort Wayne, August 19, 2008) -- Eighteen students who graduated from high school last May successfully completed the twelfth annual Summer Bridge Program at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). To celebrate and recognize their success, they were honored at a banquet Aug. 8 at Walb Union Ballroom that included IPFW faculty and administrators, community members, and their families.

Chris Douse, assistant director of IPFW's Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (DMA), says the program is designed to provide access to higher education to first generation college students. The students are also enrolled in the Academic Student Achievement Program which is a student retention initiative administered through DMA. It provides academic assistance and coaching for the students while they are enrolled at IPFW.

The students and their high schools are: Roxanna Anderson, South Side; Jennie Mejia, Marion, Sierra Taylor, Wayne; Ivette Ochoa, South Side; Candace Causey, North Side; Marzine Moore II, Concordia; Devlon Tate, North Side; Ikei Lee, Wayne; Shaqwayla Baker, Wayne; Lakeshia Holeman, Wayne; Sean Hannon, Chardon; Anthony Washington, Harding; Inday Jordan, Wayne; Quontrell Lyles, Harding; JacQuail Smith, Snider; Zhanel Evans, North Side; and Jamesha Gray, Snider.
