Flowers, More Than Just a Pretty Face!

(Fort Wayne, April 25, 2008) -- Don't just give your mom flowers this Mother's Day. Instead, learn all about them at the May Science Central Lunch with an IPFW Scientist and thrill her with your knowledge! Michael Bosela, Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) assistant professor of biology, will host "Flowers, More Than Just a Pretty Face" Saturday, May 10, at Science Central, 1950 N. Clinton, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is open to the public at a cost, which includes lunch, of $15 per person; $8 for Science Central members.

This session will focus on how flowers play a crucial role in the life cycle of plants. Flower models and dissections will be used to provide an overview of the basic structure and biology of the flowers. The different types of adaptations that flowers have developed to attract pollinators will also be discussed.

The Science Central Lunch with an IPFW Scientist Series is designed for families with young people ages 8 and up, and plants in both the young and most seasoned participant a budding interest in science. After each presentation, which includes a hands-on activity, participants enjoy lunch with the presenter.
