Genocide Topic of IPFW Panel Discussion

(Fort Wayne, April 23, 2008) -- Genocide is a word often heard in the media these days. But does anyone know what it really means? Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), the American Democracy Project (ADP) at IPFW, and the Departments of History and Political Science are sponsoring an upcoming panel discussion, "Into the Second Century of Genocide," Thursday, May 1, at noon in Walb Union, Rooms 222-226. Panelists will be Ann Livschiz, assistant professor of history, and James Toole, assistant professor of political science.

Andrew Downs, campus coordinator for ADP said, "The purpose of the discussion is to help audiences understand the legal definition of genocide, the origins of the term, the importance of the meaning of the word, and who gets to decide when the term should be applied."

The discussion is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Downs at 260-481-6691 or downsa@ipfw.edu.
