Middle School Engineering Technology Career Day at IPFW

(Fort Wayne, April 11, 2008) -- On Tuesday, April 15, the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science at Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) will host the second of two middle school career days. Elizabeth Thompson, associate professor, Department of Engineering, is the faculty coordinator for this popular morning event. The program will open with a presentation by Scott Moor, assistant professor of engineering, at 9:30 a.m. in the IPFW Walb Student Union Ballroom.

Middle School Career Day is structured to provide exposure to a wide variety of engineering, technology, and computer science disciplines. Students are divided into small groups and rotate through eight technical sessions in 15-20 minute intervals. This year's presentations include guest representatives from Raytheon and Armstrong Technology Partners, along with IPFW faculty and student assistants. "Hands-on" activities are available in some sessions and the students complete a study worksheet.

For more information on pre-registration contact Carol Dostal, director of ETCS outreach, at dostalc@ipfw.edu or 260-481-6905. There is no fee for this event, but space is limited and registration is required at www.etcs.ipfw.edu/~careerday.

A schedule of sessions, topics, and locations will be available for the media in Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science Building, Room 243 on the day of the event.
