IPFW Names New Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

(Fort Wayne, April 7, 2008) -- Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Chancellor Michael A. Wartell announced today (April 7, 2008) that William J. McKinney, current dean of the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts at Slippery Rock University, has accepted the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective July 7, 2008. McKinney will succeed Susan Hannah, who is retiring from her administrative appointment June 30, 2008. In making the announcement, Wartell said "I am especially gratified with Dr. McKinney's acceptance, as he was the first choice of the search committee and the overwhelming choice of the campus constituencies involved in the search process."

McKinney received undergraduate degrees in history and chemical engineering from Bucknell University. He earned a master's degree in history and philosophy of science and a Ph.D. in philosophy of science from Indiana University. He began his teaching career as a visiting assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Kentucky from 1992 to 1993. From 1993 to 2001 he was a member of the faculty at Southeast Missouri State University, beginning as an assistant professor of philosophy. In 1997 he advanced to a joint appointment as associate professor and chair of philosophy and religion and associate professor of environmental science. In 2001 he again advanced in the joint appointment to the rank of professor. Later that year Dr. McKinney joined Slippery Rock University. He also served as visiting professor of history at Bucknell University in 2005.

"It is an honor and a privilege to join Chancellor Wartell, the students, faculty, and staff at IPFW. I look forward to serving as an advocate for the University's academic mission, as well as to serving the state, the region, and the Fort Wayne community," said McKinney on the announcement of his appointment.

Dr. Hannah joined IPFW in 1998 as vice chancellor and professor of political science. She plans to continue to be member of the faculty. "I want to commend Dr. Hannah on the excellent job she has done in this position. Her contributions as vice chancellor will continue to be felt across the entire IPFW community for years to come," said Wartell.
