Northeast Indiana Residents to Take Part in Town Hall on Energy
(Fort Wayne, May 29, 2007) -- How Indiana and the United States will meet growing energy needs in the future will be the topic of conversation at a town hall meeting co-hosted by Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and ConocoPhillips at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, in Fort Wayne. The town hall meeting will be held at the Fort Wayne Marriott, located at Coldwater and Washington Center Roads. The meeting is free and open to the public, however, seating is limited. To secure a seat, call 1-888-877-5917 or go to www.conocophillips.com/energy/RSVP.
Northeast Indiana residents will discuss Indiana's and the nation's energy future as part of a Conversation on Energy, a public outreach program that invites attendees to ask questions and share their ideas on energy solutions that are secure, reliable, available, and environmentally responsible.
ConocoPhillips representatives and leaders active in renewable energy and energy efficiency, business and industry, and environmental and conservation initiatives will provide views on topics including traditional oil and gas development and consumption, renewable fuels, alternative energy sources, and energy efficiency and conservation. Local and statewide business, community, and industry associations will participate as partners at the meeting.
John R. Stafford, director of the Community Research Institute at IPFW, will serve as moderator for the town hall meeting. Featured panelists include:
- Carin Knickel, vice president of human resources at ConocoPhillips;
- Merl Lindstrom, general manager of research and development at ConocoPhillips;
- Brandon Seitz of the Indiana Office of Energy and Defense Development;
- Patrick Bennet of the Indiana Manufacturers Association; and
- Christopher Moore of the Indiana Coalition for Renewable Energy and Economic Development.
IPFW Chancellor Michael A. Wartell says the event is a good example of IPFW's engagement in the community. "This town hall meeting allows community members to meet with and discuss these very important issues in a setting that is conducive to allowing all opinions to be heard, and for everyone involved to learn more about both the problems and possible solutions."
Fort Wayne is one of 35 stops on ConocoPhillips' nationwide "listening tour." The town hall meetings foster an open forum for citizens to express their opinions about energy issues and topics, as well as to gain feedback from local and national experts.
