Candidates’ Boot Camp Offered

(Fort Wayne, Jan. 30, 2007) -- The political season is just around the corner: municipal primary elections will be held in Indiana this May, followed by the general election in November, and just a year later, the country will be electing a new president and fill other local, state, and federal offices. For those thinking of running for office or helping in another candidate’s campaign, the Second Annual Political Boot Camp is the perfect training ground. The Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics, in partnership with Leadership Fort Wayne, will conduct the boot camp Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 9 p.m. in Walb Student Union, Rooms 222-226, on the IPFW campus.

Andy Downs, director of the Downs Center, says the curriculum will cover the basics of how to run for office and how to develop a campaign. Attendees will also hear from a panel of experts on the lessons they’ve learned while either running for office, holding office, or working on another candidate’s campaign.

The cost of the boot camp is $15 per person and advance registration is required. Registrations will be accepted by phone at both the Downs Center, 260-481-6691, and the Leadership Fort Wayne Office, 260-481-6112; or by mailing a check for $15 to Leadership Fort Wayne, 2101 E. Coliseum Blvd. Kettler Hall, Room 260, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Registration deadline is Feb. 12, 2007.

For more information, call Downs at 260-481-6691.
