IPFW Students Host Irish Immersion Festival Jan. 20

(Fort Wayne, Jan. 16, 2007) -- Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) student groups will host an Irish Immersion Festival Jan. 20 from noon to 9 p.m. in the Classroom-Medical Building on the IPFW campus.

Caoimhe Mcneil, president of Omicron-Psi honor society, said students are inviting the community to learn about the rich but often unrecognized historical, religious, and cultural heritage of the Irish people.

The festival and workshops are free, but attendees are encouraged to bring non perishable food items for the Community Harvest Food Bank. Donations will also be accepted for Adventure Leadership Training, which is a cross-cultural reconciliation program for Northern Ireland youth.

The festival includes live music, workshops, and a 5 p.m. mass that will be presented in Irish. The workshops will feature Irish history and politics, religion, language, pop culture, folklore and music, and more. Presenters include Indiana University professors, teachers from Bishop Luers High School, and IPFW students.

Vendors will be selling food, jewelry, decorations, and more in the
Classroom-Medical Building lobby. Performances and the mass will be in room 159, and the workshops will be in rooms 112 and 152.

The festival is sponsored by Omicron-Psi, the Sociology Student
Organization, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Campus Ministry, and the Indiana-Purdue Student Government Association.

For more information, contact Caoimhe Mcneil, president of Omicron-Psi, at 260-438-9598 or 260-481-4140.
