IPFW Welcomes New English and Linguistics Chair
(Fort Wayne, August 9, 2007) -- Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) welcomes Hardin Aasand as the new chair of the Department of English and Linguistics. Aasand officially started his position July 1, 2007.
Aasand's main goals for the IPFW Department of English and Linguistics include making a seamless transition for the students, faculty, and staff; fulfilling department's mission; and addressing course alignment designated by IPFW's Baccalaureate Framework.
The new chair and professor notes several reasons for accepting the position at IPFW. "I was looking for a larger institution and found the masters program in IPFW's Department of English a plus," said Aasand. "Also, the affiliation with both Indiana University and Purdue University is a great benefit to both faculty and students."
Aasand earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Toronto. He also received a B.A. with a major in English and history from the University of North Dakota. Most recently, he served as chair and professor of English at Dickinson State University in North Dakota. There he taught a variety of courses including Old English, history of the English language, 19th Century British literature, and more. His research interests focus on Shakespeare, the court entertainments of Elizabeth I and James I, and textual editing.
