IPFW Hosts Free Life after High School Summer Youth Program
(Fort Wayne, April 24, 2007) -- Area high school students looking for guidance on what to do after high school and what to do this summer now have the answer to both questions. The Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs will offer a four-week summer youth program, "Life After High School," Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The interactive program will run July 2 to 27 at IPFW and will focus on hospitality and tourism management and music therapy. It is free and open to high school students.
The program will emphasize fun, hands-on activities, with the goal of introducing high school students to university life. The first three weeks will focus on hospitality and tourism management and the last week will focus on music therapy. Students will visit area hospitality and tourism venues, attend ISTEP/SAT academic preparation workshops, work in small groups to design their own businesses, and create "life albums" using art and music as mediums.
Registration is required and will close when the program reaches 25 students. Priority will be given to those who participate in free or reduced-price lunch programs. The free program includes materials, Citilink transportation (if necessary), lunch, and a t-shirt.
