Fort Wayne Philharmonic Presents Free Outdoor Concert at IPFW

(Fort Wayne, Sept. 5, 2006) -- Classics rock! And the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will back up their talk with a display of great classical compositions that influenced modern rock & roll. The best part? It’s free. Bring the family; bring your lawn chairs; bring a blanket; bring a picnic, and join conductor Bradley Thachuk and the Philharmonic on Thursday, September 7, at 7 p.m. at the Walb Student Union Outdoor Amphitheatre on the campus of IPFW.

The Philharmonic first performed Classics Rock in 2002 at the Arts United Center, formerly the Performing Arts Center, to a standing room only crowd. Two years later the Philharmonic performed Classics Still Rock in which so many tickets were sold the concert had to be moved to the Embassy Theatre.

The free performance of this concert on a college campus is an attempt to reach the Gen X audience who may not normally be interested in attending a Philharmonic concert, or may simply not be able to afford it, while at the same time performing music that people of all ages can appreciate and building overall awareness of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic presents the Unplugged Series as a way to form a bond with the younger audience. The Philharmonic is northeast Indiana’s only professional orchestra and plays a significant role in shaping the lives of the residents of the region. The Philharmonic is dedicated to providing the area with a variety of music, ranging from classical to contemporary to rock & roll. Unlike many orchestras, its goal is not just to serve one small segment of the population; instead, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic seeks to reach the typical orchestra audience as well as families, young adults, and area schoolchildren.

This performance of the Unplugged Series is sponsored by IPFW. For further information, visit www.fortwaynephilharmonic.com.

Now performing its 62nd season, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic with Music Director Edvard Tchivzhel is a member of the American Symphony Orchestra League and a funded member of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, the Indiana Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts.
