IPFW Distinguished Alumni Honored at Homecoming
(Fort Wayne, Nov. 17, 2006) -- The Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Alumni Association is honoring four distinguished graduates at this year’s Homecoming game halftime on Sunday, Nov. 19. The basketball game with Indiana State starts at 4 p.m. at the Memorial Coliseum.
Receiving the Alumni Citation for his work with the Burmese community is Kyaw Joe Soe. Joe is a Burmese translator for Fort Wayne Community Schools. He is the founder of the Burmese children’s preschool readiness program, the director of the Burmese Literacy Program, and was tapped to serve as a member of the Yellow Ribbon Task Force for Fort Wayne Community Schools.
Jeff Taner is this year’s recipient of the Alumni Top Volunteer Award for his commitment and contributions to the IPFW Alumni Association. The director of audit and accounting services at Dulin, Ward & DeWald, Jeff is active as a member of IPFW’s School of Business Alumni Council, the Alumni Association’s Advancement Team, and is a Pacesetter for the Alumni Annual Fund.
The Bob F. Jesse Medal is presented to a Purdue graduate who provides unique and significant contributions to IPFW. Kurt Heidenreich, an architect with Engineering Resources, Inc. is receiving this honor. Kurt was the designer of the IPFW Willis Family Pedestrian Bridge as well as a structural and site designer for the IPFW student housing project.
Dennis Becker is an IU graduate who is being honored with the Ralph E. Broyles Medal for his unique and significant contributions to IPFW. Dennis spent four and one-half years on the planning and development of the bronze mastodon statue, which graces the center of campus. He has served on the IPFW Alumni Association Board of Directors and is a Pacesetter for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Dennis is an attorney at Barnes and Thornburg.
