Film Chronicles IPFW Professor's Search for Answers
(Fort Wayne, April 28, 2006) -- Unraveled, a story of memory, genetics, and Alzheimer’s disease, is a documentary film directed by Katrina Fullman, assistant professor of communication at Indiana University—Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). The film will be screened at the Fort Wayne Cinema Center located at 437 E. Berry Street on Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m.; and again on Sunday, May 7, at 4 p.m. A reception with Fullman on May 4 begins at 6:30 p.m. Both screenings will be followed by discussion periods.
Fullman says Unraveled “…combines memoir with scientific investigation to tell a story of inheritance, memory, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).” It follows Fullman’s journey to “…discover the hidden legacies handed down by her mother and grandmother…it leads her to a genetic counselor’s office, her father’s Miami condominium, a convent for retired nuns, and her mother’s Medicaid nursing home. At the end of the film, Fullman is faced with the difficult decision of whether to undergo a genetic test for Alzheimer’s disease.”
Admission to the screenings is $5 or free with an IPFW student I.D. For more information, call 260-481-5792, or go to www.portableamnesia.org.
