The Last Stampede oF Mastodons on Parade
(Fort Wayne, Sept. 6, 2005) -- Sunday, Oct. 9, will be the last gathering of the herd as the Mastodons on Parade get ready to go to their new homes. From 11 a.m.-4 p.m., the public is invited to Headwaters Park East, at the Lincoln Financial Pavilion, where they can hug their favorite mastodon one last time.
Irene Walters, executive director of university relations and communications at IPFW, says there will be a program beginning at 2 p.m. where 80 miniature mastodons will be unveiled. “We’ve invited our mastodon artists to repeat their original design for the large models or to come up with a new design on these table-top size creatures. The response so far has been wonderful! At The Last Stampede we’re going to auction off one mastodon that will be personalized for its new owners, and we’ll also have five of the miniatures up for bid.”
The News Sentinel is co-sponsoring the party and will run a contest in conjunction with it. Details of that contest will be announced shortly in the newspaper, and the winner will be announced at the party. The program will be emceed by WOWO radio’s Charly Butcher. Kids of all ages are invited to dress up as their favorite mastodon; during the program, there will be a parade of all those in costume.
Mastodon merchandise, including t-shirts, posters, and trading cards, will be on sale and Mr. G’s concession stand will be open.
