Registration Remains Open for Math and ScIence Camp
(Fort Wayne, June 21, 2005) -- What makes a hot air balloon rise? How do rockets fly? Can you find your way out of the woods? These are just some of the questions that will be answered during the eleventh annual Math and Science Camp at IPFW, July 18-22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Students who will be entering the seventh and eighth grades this fall are eligible to attend the camp which is designed to generate excitement about science through hands-on problem solving skills. Campers will build water rockets that soar, hot-air balloons that float, and they will learn orienteering, all with the goal of learning about science and math and problem solving while having fun.
Target enrollment for the camp is 52 students. There will be an orientation meeting on Sunday, July 17, at 4 p.m. Campers will be evenly divided into two groups and will alternate morning and afternoon math and physical science sessions. Session will be led by IPFW professors, as wells as high school and middle school teachers.
Students will need to bring a lunch, a simple calculator, a white t-shirt or white cloth surface like a pillow case, and two empty, clean 2-litre soda bottles. Cost for the week-long camp is $150.00 per student. Registration for the camp will remain open until the camp begins. For more information on the camp and possible scholarships, contact Associate Professor of Physics Mark Masters at 260-481-6153.
