South African Professor Speaks on Political Islam and the State in Africa
(Fort Wayne, April 8, 2005) -- Hussein Solomon, associate professor of political science, director of the Centre for International Political Studies, and head of the Unit for African Studies at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, will present a special lecture, “Political Islam and the State in Africa,” Wednesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in the Visual Arts Building, Room 204.
Solomon’s research interests include conflict and conflict resolution in Africa; South African foreign policy, international relations theory; and religious fundamentalism and population movements within the developing world. His publications have appeared in South Africa, Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Russian Federation, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, India, Bangladesh, and Japan.
Following the lecture, which is sponsored by IPFW’s Department of Political Science and the Office of Academic Affairs, refreshments will be served in VA 110. The lecture is free and open to the public.
