Community is Invited to Meet the Herd May 1
(Fort Wayne, April 7, 2005) -- More than one hundred mastodons that will make up Mastodons on Parade will be “grazin’ in the grass” of Headwaters Park West on Sunday, May 1, from 3-5 p.m. at a free community party.
Irene Walters, executive director of University Relations and Communications at IPFW, says the free party is a perfect opportunity for the public to come out and see all 102 of the fiberglass works of art. “We’re going to have lots of things to do; there will be games for the children, voting for your top ten favorite mastodons, entertainment, food, and more.”
After the party, the mastodons will be moved to their “summer homes” at various locations around Fort Wayne. The winners of the top ten voting will appear in IPFW’s entry in the Three Rivers Festival Parade on July 9, and on October 21 many of them will be offered at auction at a gala event at the Grand Wayne Center, with the proceeds benefiting the United Way of Allen County.
Mastodons on Parade is the first-ever community-wide public art project in Fort Wayne. For more information on the party, the gala/auction, or the project in general, call Walters at 260-481-6104.
