Employment Outlook

University Strategic Alignment Process Banner 1

The Community Research Institute (CRI) was retained to conduct an analysis of regional employment outlook for Northeast Indiana.  CRI’s analysis of IPEDS CIP programming throughout the region was compared with economic and occupational data in order to report information related to academic programs:

  • Completions in the Region
  • Occupation Projections
  • Industry Projections

Limitations of mapping the codes exist and are outlined in the summary presentation. The CIP codes assigned by IPFW to its programs has a direct impact and in cases where codes get changed internally, the analysis is compromised if the changed codes do not get reflected in the IPEDS data.  As you look through this information, we invite you to comment and provide context on your department’s data in your USAP Report (Part I – Question #12):

Regional Outlook – Summary (requires IPFW ID and password)

Regional Outlook – Spreadsheet (requires IPFW ID and password)

You may find the CIP Code for your program in this spreadsheet.

When reviewing these data, the Task Force understands that it is much easier to track majors to employment in some academic areas than others.  They also recognize that critical skills are developed in many of our academic programs that are not always reflected in the employment trends. Skills such as critical analysis and thinking, problem-solving and decision-making are often acquired during the first part of a student’s degree program, and are taught in general education classes that don’t always map to a specific or defined career path.

Also of interest and in addition to the reports prepared especially for USAP, CRI has shared a report exploring Industry Trends that they recently prepared for the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership:

Target Industry Trends & Education Asset Inventory (requires IPFW ID and password)
