Cantor, Louis

Dr. Cantor taught history from 1968 until his retirement in 1999 as professor emeritus of history. He received degrees from Memphis State University (B.A., 1957) and Duke University (A.M., 1961; Ph.D.,1963). He is author of A Prologue to the Protest Movement (Duke, 1969) and Wheelin' on Beale (Pharos, 1992). His areas of research included Afro-American and recent U.S. history and popular culture. In 1991 Dr. Cantor received the Ulmer Award. Dr. Cantor attended Humes H.S. in Memphis, TN, where he shared a shop class with Elvis Presley. He also was a center for the Memphis State University basketball team in the mid-fifties.
