Dr. Schminke came to the Indiana University Center in 1947 where he taught until he retired in 1980 as professor emeritus of history. He received degrees from Anderson College (A.B., 1932), University of Toulouse in France (certificate, 1933; Docteur, 1939) and did additional graduate work at the Universities of Wisconsin and Southern California. His areas of research included Franco-American relations and the French history of northeastern Indiana. He was editor of the Old Fort News. He was known as an authority on roses having served as a consulting rosarian for the American Rose Society. Dr. Schminke died in March 1986. The I.U. Student newspaper has an extensive geography and photo of Dr. Schminke in the March 1953 issue (vol. 1., no.5, p. 3).
