Hastings, John

John Simpson Hastings was a Trustee of Indiana University (and President of the Board from 1951-1959) from 1936-1959. He, along with Alfred W. Kettler, Sr., Purdue President Frederick Hovde, and Indiana University President Hermann Wells, was instrumental in bringing I.U. and Purdue together in Fort Wayne. Mr. Hastings was born in Washington, Indiana on June 30, 1898 and died in Chicago on February 9, 1977. He received degrees from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (B.S., 1920) and Indiana University (LL.B., 1924). He received honorary LL.D degrees from Indiana University (1959) and Northwestern University (1961).
