Downs, Michael

Dr. Downs came to IPFW in 1966 to teach political science; he died suddenly January 24, 2001. Dr. Downs was speaker of the Indiana University Faculty for eleven years, presiding officer for three years and chair of the political science department from 1978 until his death. He received degrees from Aquinas College (A.B., 1962) and the University of Notre Dame (A.M., 1963; Ph.D., 1971). Professor Downs was actively involved in the community as vice president of the Allen County Election Board from 1974 until his death and chair of the Indiana State Election Board Voting Systems Advisory Committee. He served on countless committees both on and off campus.
