Ulmer, John P.

Dr. Ulmer came to IPFW in 1964.  In 1971 he became dean of students, a position he held through various titles until 1988. He was known as "Jack" to students and faculty alike and viewed his role as a student ombudsman as well as an administrative officer. He was an advocate for students. Dr. Ulmer was also a horse enthusiast and had a mini horse farm on twenty acres northeast of Fort Wayne. After his death the Ulmer Award was established. Dr. Ulmer received degrees from Indiana University (B.S., 1952; M.S., 1953; Ed.D., 1964).
