Exploring Baby Weight Mathematically
A baby's weight changes dramatically in the first
weeks of life. For example, let's look at data for Baby Kevin and Baby David.
Baby Kevin:
| TIME |
birth |
2 weeks |
8.5 weeks |
17 weeks |
26 weeks |
| WEIGHT |
7
lb, 6 oz |
7
lb, 6 oz |
11
lb, 7 oz |
14
lb, 8 oz |
16
lb, 5 oz |
Baby David:
| TIME |
birth |
3 weeks |
4 weeks |
5 weeks |
| WEIGHT |
7
lb, 9 oz |
8 lb, 14 oz |
9 lb, 12 oz |
10
lb, 6 oz |
The graph below tracks Baby David’s weight and Baby Kevin’s weight
over time. David was only 5 weeks old when this graph was made.
For fun, I created equations to model the data, which you can see by
clicking here. With these equations you can
answer some interesting questions.
