COURSE
OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course,
students should:

Have a better overall
understanding of functions and their graphical, numerical, analytical, and
verbal representations

Be able to mechanically
calculate derivatives of simple functions and combinations of functions
·
Understand definite
integrals as areas
·
Understanding the
relationship between derivatives and integrals
·
Use technology
appropriately to gain insight into the solution of a problem
·
Be able to see functions
in real-world applications and to develop models in this context understand
derivatives as rates of change and in the context of local linearity

Have improved skills at
problem solving and critical thinking

Have improved skills at
writing and explaining math
QUIZZES: There will be an on-line quiz each week, based on the
homework assignments at the end of each section.
EXAMS: There will three one-hour exams and a two-hour comprehensive
final. All exams are proctored.

Use the lecture notes provided and the textbook to study the
material following the schedule below. Each section contains a
homework assignment. You DO NOT have to turn in these assignments, but I highly recommend
that you work every problem since
the weekly quizzes are based on them. You will be able to
take the quiz only once, starting on Thursday through the Sunday
of each week.
NOTES: 1.You
might want to review Chapter 0, especially if it has been a while since your
last Math class.
