How to Prepare

  1. Know your advisor's name and office location. Your assigned advisor is listed on your "myIPFW" page.
  2. Meet with your advisor at least once each semester so your advisor will have the chance to get to know you.
  3. Be prepared before you meet with your advisor. Become familiar with your program/major requirements by reading the Undergraduate Bulletin, departmental requirement sheets (Bingo sheets), or by using CAPP, the unofficial degree audit system on OASIS.
  4. Be an active participant in the advising process. Seek your advisor's advice and recommendations about courses and course sequencing. Your advisor is there to assist you in your choices, but remember that the final decision is yours.
  5. Register during early registration you will be more likely to get the classes that you want on the days and times that are convenient for you.
  6. If you have not chosen a major, meet with a career counselor in Career Services to talk about your interests and how they relate to a major and career.
