Enhancing teaching

  • What technologies are available for students with disabilities? Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD),offers students a number of enabling technologies. These include (but are not limited to) Dragon Naturally Speaking, Kurzweil, ZOOM text, Alpha smart, and a host of peripheral devices. Please contact SSD for further information at 260-481-6657.

  • How can I find out if my online course is accessible to students with disabilities? Online classes are geared to be accessible to all. Because individual needs vary, it is best to contact the Services for Students with Disabilities office at 260-481-6657 to discuss a solution that accommodates both the goals of the course as well as the needs of the individual students.

  • Are there web resources where I can learn more about how to make my website accessible to students with disabilities?   • What bibliographic management software programs are available? Endnote, ProCite, and Reference Manager are currently available in the Student Access Labs. Contact the Help Desk in KT206, 260-481-6030 for information regarding software you may use at home.

Copyright Law & Instructional Technology

  • What are my responsibilities and rights in supporting student learning with regard to fair use and copyright laws? It is your responsibility as an instructor to know the difference between fair use and copyright infringement. Multimedia

  • How do I get my class recorded on video or audio? Call the Video Coordinator at 481-6518.

  • How do I get my 35 mm slides digitized? Call the Studio T2 Coordinator at 481-6309 to schedule an appointment.

  • How do I get my VHS tapes on to DVD? Call CELT at 481-6368 to discuss your needs.

  • How do I find out which copyright laws apply to the multimedia materials that I use in my course? See Fair Use and Teach Act guidelines at http://www.lib.ipfw.edu/1070.0.html.   • How do I learn to produce instructional multimedia?   • Is there a charge for multimedia production services? In most cases, no. Contact CELT at 481-6354 to discuss your needs.

  • How do I get a film or video to use in my teaching? See the Learning Resource Center page at http://www.ipfw.edu/lrc/. You may be re-routed to another site because the LRC has been re-organized.

  • How do I make a film or video available for my online course? Call CELT at 481-6368 to discuss your needs. Please allow several weeks advance notice.

  • Can I make an entire film or video available over the internet for my face-to-face course? In most cases, the answer is no. You should call CELT at 481-6368 to discuss your needs.

  • Where can my students do assignments that require creating multimedia (e.g. portfolios)? Call Studio M at 481-0114 or email the facility at studiom@ipfw.edu. Go to the web site at http://www.ipfw.edu/studiom/ for a description of the equipment and services available.
