Welcome to the Language Lab

The IPFW Language Lab is located on the Second Floor of the Classroom-Medical Bldg. in room 258.

The lab is open whenever the building is open: Mon- Sat from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sun 10 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Please remember to sign in and out when you use the lab! A sign-in book is provided with a sheet for each section/course. Look for the name of your instructor and then your section number.

This lab allows you to use many different resources on your own, including:

1. Computer-assisted instruction. Computer lessons are available in French, German, and Spanish, on grammar and vocabulary. In addition to our own IPFW lessons, the 8 computers offer Internet access, CD-ROM programs, and word processor programs with foreign language grammar and spell checkers.

2. Videocassettes*. Combination TV/VCRs are available in the front of the lab for student use anytime, together with VHS videocassettes of some textbook programs and French, German, and Spanish TV programs.

3. Music. A stereo cassette deck and CD player is available for special use, e.g., special music tapes. There is a case of cassette tapes with music from many different languages in the listening station.

4. Games and puzzles may be used in the conversation area in room 252. The games are in the cabinets and must be returned to the cabinets when finished. We have Monopoly and Scrabble in several languages and Cranium in Spanish.

5. DVDs are also available for your use. We have several DVDs in the bookshelf near the listening station. The DVDs have cultural information, grammar, and entertainment programs in various languages. The DVDs can only be played on the two new Dell computers.

6. Conversation. New this semester! Since the main lab is intended for individual study and should be quiet room 252 has been converted for student use as a conversation/group workroom. In the conversation area students may watch programs as a group, play games, or have conversations all in the target language!

7. The Web. On the Language Lab web page students can find links to music videos, newspapers and magazines, museums, videos, and a wealth of other internet resources to help in practicing language skills. Simply click on the links above.
