Research interests

Language policy and planning. I have looked at the spread of Western languages, studying especially the current spread of Spanish and especially how that is developing in Brazil. I do this by researching the attitudes towards languages and language varieties, and by conducting critical discourse analyses of press portrayals of such spread.

Spanish dialectology, language contact (Portuguese-Spanish), language variation and change, mostly with data collected in the class of Spanish as a foreign language in Brazil.

Some years ago, I was lucky enough to discover the world of bilingual lexicography, which I love and to which I have found myself devoting quite some free time. The company there has made it a thoroughly enjoyable activity.
