Worth Weller (middle row, left) is a full-time Continuing Lecturer
at Indiana University-Purdue University, Ft. Wayne.

The author of three books, two about revolutions in Mexico and Nicaragau and one about the modern Ku Klux Klan, and the co-author of a new journalism textbook, Visual Literacy: Photography Meets the Digital Age (Kendall Hunt, fall 2008), he is a 1968 BA graduate of Duke University, with majors in Sociology and English, and a 2002 MA graduate of Indiana University-PurdueUniversity Ft. Wayne, with concentrations in composition theory and American Literature.

His wife, Susan (next to Worth), is the technology coordinator for Manchester Community Schools.

They have a son, Ben (top center), who is a Duke University graduate (BA, 2002) and a IU graduate (MA, 2007) and after three years as an English teacher in Korea is now teaching at the IU Graduate School of Journalism, a daughter, Marie (right), who is NYU graduate (BA 2006) and now works at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, and a daughter, Julia (center), who graduated from Vanderbilt University, served two years in the Peace Corps in eastern Europe, taught Head Start in inner-city Washington, DC, for two years, and is now a full-time mother living with her husband Chad Pfitzer (top left) in Denver, CO. They have a daughter (our first grand child), Addy, whose (thousnds of) pictures you can see here.

Worth is an avid reader of fiction and non-fiction, and his favorite books include Lord of the Rings, Heaven Lake, by John Dalton, and The Road and Blood Meridian, both by Cormac McCarthy. His hobbies include photography and mountain climbing, and every summer he enjoys a road trip to Colorado where he climbs that state's famous "Fourteeners."

My good friend and climbing partner, Carey Fuller (right), whose friendship goes back nearly 40 years to our Duke spelunking days. Carey is a seasoned mountaineer and I never would have made this without his steady urging. This is the notorious "Keyhole," at about 13,200'. Many look at the exposure on the other side of the Keyhole and turn back.

The small white dot in the middle is Carey, in the middle of "the Narrows," an incredibly exposed traverse at about 13,900', between the top of "the Trough" and the foot of the "Homestretch."

The long approach to Wetterhorn, rated one of Colorado's most challenging 14ers (with 110' of exposed Class 3 climbing on the final summit pitch - hence the helmet in the previous photo!).
