Final essay for Medieval History, B351
Fall 2007
Do one of the following. This essay is to be
done during the reading week and turned in at the time of the final
examination, Tuesday, 11 December, at 1:00 pm in ET146. The exam period
will end about two hours later, and for this assignment there are no late
papers. However, the essay is to be typed, double-spaced and proofread on a
word processor.
- How dark were the Dark
Ages? Discuss this term in relation to political, intellectual,
institutional and agricultural history in Europe between 350 A.D. and
1050 A.D. What other terms would you use to describe this period and why
would you use them?
- What role did the
Christian Church and Christian Faith play in the intellectual,
political, social and cultural history of Europe between 350 A.D. and
1050 A.D? How was Europe affected by Christianity and its adherents
during this period?
