Transition to Teaching
Teacher Certification for Experienced Professionals
The Transition to Teaching program is a selective admission program designed for students who have already earned a baccalaureate degree and who are interested in becoming certified teachers. It is a year-long, field-based, cohort program intended to develop and support reflective teaching, promote thoughtful and innovative practices in schools, and make optimal use of the professional resources that currently exist in schools, the community, and the university. In addition, most of the Transition to Teaching coursework is embedded in a master's degree program that allows students who wish to earn an advanced degree the opportunity to fulfill many of the requirements.
In most cases, students selected for the program will earn their elementary (K-6) or secondary (6-12) teaching certificate after two summer sessions and two academic semesters of coursework, plus accompanying field experiences. The program may take longer for those who have additional content courses to complete before being considered for admission.
