EDUA F300: Invitation to Teach
Course Description:
This course will provide a strong beginning for students considering teaching as a career. Students will experience the teaching profession through university classroom activities and field experiences in local schools. Through reading, discussion, and reflection, students are introduced to the School of Education’s Conceptual Framework, teacher licensing standards in the state of Indiana, and the INTASC [PDF] (Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium) Standards. Students will begin the process of establishing and developing materials for a pre-service teacher portfolio that is required for teaching certification at IPFW.
During this course, you will be placed in a school in East Allen County so that you may observe a teacher for 15 hours. You will be given some time off from class to complete this observation. You must work out a time that is convenient with your assigned teacher to go in to the school and observe. For example, depending on the teacher's schedule, you might observe for 2 ½ days or spread out your visits.
For further information on the 15 hours of observation, which includes a Model Teacher Form and Student Background Check click on the link above.
