Frequently Asked Questions About T.E.A.M. I and Internship

If I miss a class period of EDUC P250, EDUC P251, EDUC E339, or EDUC E340, may I make up the time by attending a different section of T.E.A.M. I?

No. The sections of T.E.A.M. I are full, and there isn’t enough space to have extra students in the classrooms. Moreover, recording attendance would be difficult.

What should I do if I have to be absent from a T.E.A.M. I class session?

Call the instructor, preferably before class but no later than the same day. For further information, refer to the Teaching Educational Academic Methods I Attendance Policy.

Attendance is mandatory. Mrs. Jordan will record attendance.

I received a professional behavior warning. How is my grade affected?

Your grade is not affected unless you do not modify the behavior of concern. In that case, a point reduction will occur.

I have heard that T.E.A.M. I students work on a portfolio. What does this mean and how are the INTASC standards involved?

T.E.A.M. I students do work on portfolios that will be submitted during student teaching. The portfolio artifacts exemplify the ten INTASC standards. For more information, refer to the Guidelines for Preparing a Portfolio for Students Receiving Certification to Teach in Indiana from the School of Education Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Are there certain grades I need to earn in my T.E.A.M. I courses to be able to participate in T.E.A.M. II next semester?

Yes. Students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the T.E.A.M. I courses. This means that students need to earn at least two “Bs” and two “Cs” in the T.E.A.M. I courses. In addition, students need to receive an “S” in the T.E.A.M. I internship experience.

TOP

What happens if I do not receive the necessary grade in each course?

Students will repeat any T.E.A.M. I course in which a “D” or below was earned. If necessary, students will repeat T.E.A.M. I courses to earn the minimum GPA of 2.5. The internship experience will need to be repeated when any T.E.A.M. I courses are repeated. However, if students receive a “U” for internship but pass the T.E.A.M. I courses, only the internship experience would need to be repeated. All T.E.A.M. I courses and T.E.A.M. I internship must be completed according to the guidelines listed in this handbook before students may enroll in T.E.A.M. II.

Yes. Please make sure to check any deviations in time with your cooperating teacher and university supervisor ahead of time.

My cooperating teacher is ill. The principal asked if I would act as the substitute. May I do this?

No. You never should be left in the classroom alone with the students. A paid substitute should be with you.

TOP

I am not enthused about my internship placement. May I be placed elsewhere?

Once internship starts, no placements are switched unless there are extenuating circumstances. Changes in placement must be authorized by the program coordinator.

TOP

These questions are best answered by referring to the Teaching Educational Academic Methods I Internship Eligibility and Grading Policy.
