Your advisor will use your placement test results to determine what courses you will be allowed to take. Your test resultes may result in extra required courses and/or strict limitations on which courses may be taken.
Attend Student Orientation, Advisement & Registration (SOAR)
All new freshmen are required to attend SOAR. This day-long session is designed to provide general information about IPFW, as well as pertinent information regarding academic programs, college policies, and student life. During SOAR, you will meet with an academic advisor who will assist you with registering for classes. You will not be allowed to register for classes until you have attended SOAR.
We begin sending SOAR information to newly admitted freshmen in April.
Visit the SOAR website for more information.
Pay fees or finalize financial aid with the Financial Aid Office
Payment plans are available! Be aware of deadlines and pay on time to avoid any penalties. Fee payment deadlines are printed in the Schedule of Classes or are available at the Bursar's website. Fees may be paid by mail, by phone, by internet through OASIS, or in person.
Textbooks
You may get your textbooks and lab manuals from the IPFW Bookstore (Kettler Hall, lower level), or visit the online bookstore. Bring a copy of your schedule to the bookstore to determine what textbooks you need. Your instructors will inform you of any additional materials needed in the classroom; and most of these items can be purchased at the bookstore.
Activate Student Computer and E-mail Account
You should receive a Student Computer Account activation packet in the mail that details how to activate your student account. Additional information about student computer accounts is available at the ITS Student Computer Accounts web page or the ITS Help Desk in KT 206. You must activate your student account to use student-access computer labs on campus; to have an IPFW e-mail account that professors, advisors and other students can use to contact you; and to access the online component of classes that utilize this technology.
Obtain a Student ID Card
Official university IDs, with name and student identification number, are issued to new IPFW students free of charge and are required to access many university services, including library services, Gates Sports Center facilities, and free or reduced admission to athletic events. IDs and validations are issued at the Walb Union Information Desk. Current IPFW registration and a valid driver's license with photo are required to obtain an ID. Replacement IDs are available for $20.
Begin classes and get involved
Have a great semester.
