Undergraduate Programs
The undergraduate B.S.Ed. in elementary or secondary education is intended to prepare students for successful careers as teachers of children in preschool through grade 12. The elementary degree is divided into two concentrations: early childhood, for preschool and elementary-primary school settings, and middle childhood, for elementary-intermediate school settings. Preservice teachers must choose one or both concentrations to complete the degree. Currently, the early childhood program also offers a 2-year associate’s degree preparing students for employment in nursery schools, Headstart programs, and preschool settings. The secondary education degree is also divided into two concentrations: early adolescence, for middle school/junior high settings, and adolescence/young adulthood, for high school settings. Students must choose one or both concentrations to complete the degree. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students with the 4-year B.S. degree in elementary or secondary education are eligible to apply for an Indiana teaching license through the Indiana State Department of Education
