What is POLYTECHNIC?


Hands-on-experiences

Hands-on experiences with a dynamic and progressive teaching environment give Polytechnic graduates profound technical knowledge, an ability to problem solve,  apply principles, think critically, innovate, and communicate.   

Doing

Polytechnic programs are for students who enjoy “doing” more than memorizing theories involving a lot of Math & Science.  We are all about “hands-on learning.”   Tinkerers, builders, experimenters and students with military backgrounds thrive in Polytechnic programs.

Technologies that push our local industries forward

Polytechnic programs emphasize practice-based learning via hands-on labs using state-of-the-art equipment. We solve “real-world” problems in the process of learning engineering and technology.  We require Math and Science but not the depth of Engineering or Computer Science programs.  Our focus is on the technologies that push our local industries forward.

Professional Jobs

Polytechnic programs lead to professional jobs in the engineering and technology fields.  A majority of Polytechnic students are already employed in the field before picking up their diplomas.  Programs in Polytechnic focus on design, construction and the implementation of technology.

Majors

The majors that make up the School of Polytechnics all reside in the College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science. The faculty, resources and majors of two departments, Computer, Electrical, and Information Technology and Manufacturing and Construction Engineering Technology, have joined to form the School of Polytechnics.

Computer Engineering Technology majors are prepared for careers in hardware and software support and design, Internet and networking control, computer systems, instrumentation as well as other emerging technical areas.

Construction Engineering Technology majors are employed in all areas of the building industry, including construction, architecture, interior design, civil engineering, land surveying, and government.

Electrical Engineering Technology majors are employed in all areas of electronics, including microprocessor-based systems, digital and analog communications, digital and analog control, electrical power, microwave systems, and industrial control and automation.

Industrial Engineering Technology majors work in the automotive, heavy truck, plastics, defense and medical products industries.

Information Technology majors pursue careers in designing, developing, programming, and implementing information technology based systems, with an emphasis on network and communication systems, mobile and telecommunications systems, computer system & enterprise application, information integration to name just a few.

Mechanical Engineering Technology majors fill positions in process engineering, product development, product testing, manufacturing engineering and management.
