Dr. Gina Yi is a visiting instructor in music education at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.  She teaches Introduction to Music Education, Undergraduate First Year Seminar, and advises student teaching. She has 15 years of teaching experience, teaching all ages from early childhood to middle school. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at Yonsei University Extension and Baekseok Cultural College in South Korea. She was recognized as an outstanding faculty member at Yonsei-Extension. Before joining IPFW, she was a music teacher at Cornerstone Schools in Detroit, Michigan, and has taught early childhood music classes at Michigan State University, Community School.  Dr. Yi’s research interests include elementary general music, early childhood music, assessment and performance psychology. She has presented at various conferences such as International Society for Music Education (ISME), International Symposium on Assessment in Music Education (ISAME), Desert Skies Symposium, and Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium (SMERS). In addition, Dr. Yi was invited to present for teacher conferences at Michigan Music Conference and Wayne County Health & Family Services Head Start Teacher Training Conference. She has published song books for children, including “Let’s Make Music Fun!” “Four Seasons,” “Musical Learning Theory.” She is certified in Dalcroze, Orff-Schulwerk, and Music Learning Theory.  As a pianist, she performed as a soloist, with orchestra, and in an ensemble in California, New York, New Jersey, and Seoul, South Korea. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Michigan State University, a master’s in Music Education from Ewha Woman’s University and a bachelor’s of music from the Juilliard School.
