Continuing Lecturer and Philharmonic Mentor Alan Severs is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music, where he was a student of Louis Davidson and Charles Gorham. Alan is also a graduate of Huntington University, holding the Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry. He serves as Principal Trumpet with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, a position he has held since 1973. Alan has appeared as soloist with the Philharmonic on numerous occasions, performing concerti by Haydn, Hummel, Fasch, Arutunian, and Shostakovich. In 1988 he was on leave of absence from the orchestra to fulfill a short-term appointment as Solo Trompette with Opernhaus Zurich. While living in Switzerland, he also performed as guest Solo Trompette with the Basel Radiosymphonieorchester and the New Zurich Brass.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Alan is well known in the local and regional sports community. He is active as a soccer referee, officiating college, high school, and US Soccer Federation league matches in the Tri State area. He also officiates college and high school lacrosse. In 2005 Alan earned the coveted Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is active as a fitness and conditioning consultant at the Jorgensen YMCA specializing in low back health and rehabilitation.
He has been married to Angela for 39 years, and they have two children and two grandchildren.
