Joyanne Outland received a Bachelor degree in piano from Baylor University, a Master degree in musicology from the University of Illinois in musicology and a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano from Ball State University. Her teachers include Kenneth Drake, Roger Keys, and Mitchell Andrews. On the faculty of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne she teaches piano, piano class, piano pedagogy, and theory. She coordinates the piano recitals for Community Arts Academy at IPFW, where she teaches students of all ages. Both she and her students have performed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dr. Outland is a past president of Indiana Music Teachers Association. After a period away, she was asked to return to the board recently. She is an experienced and respected adjudicator, judging regularly for competitive auditions around the tri-state area, Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) district auditions, for ISSMA state auditions as one of 5 judges, and for the National Guild of Piano Teachers in several states. She recently co-authored the new statewide syllabus for ISSMA. She performs on the Faculty Artist Series at IPFW annually.
