Areas of Expertise

I teach and conduct research in a variety of areas of linguistics and applied linguistics, with a specialization in corpus methods. My publications are on adverbs of frequency (specifically, their literal vs. hyperbolic meanings, and the functions of the “always” + progressive construction in discourse), and what factors drive speakers to use “a” (rather than “my”/etc.) with inalienable possessions (as in “I broke a finger” to refer to one’s own finger).
