Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is a free tax return assistance and free e-filing service.  Our students are encouraged to volunteer in preparing federal and state income tax returns using professional tax software supplied by the Internal Revenue Service.  VITA generally begins to accept volunteers who would like to receive training in December. For more information or to volunteer, call 260-424-3505, 888-219-6868 or email inforsvp@aol.com.  Once certified, volunteers are assigned to VITA sites at CANI (Community Action of North East Indiana or St. Mary's Church. Day, evening and Saturday volunteer times are offered.

This free service is available to taxpayers whose incomes are $49,000 or less and who need help with their Internal Revenue Service 1040EZ, 1040A, or 1040 forms.  The VITA program targets the senior population, the disabled, the non-English speaking, military families or the taxpayer who cannot afford professional tax preparation. VITA sites are generally open around February 1st and close a couple days prior to April 15th.
