Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Chancellor Michael Wartell and Otto Chang, dean of the Doermer School of Business and Management Sciences (DSBMS), announced today (Thursday, May 7, 2009) that the school will offer an accelerated MBA program beginning this August. The program is offered through a partnership between DSBMS and IPFW’s Division of Continuing Studies.
The 11-month program offers a convenient schedule with most classes meeting Friday evenings and Saturdays; no GMAT is required; students will take only 11 classes, regardless of their undergraduate major; and classes will be small. The first students will complete the program in June 2010. Successful candidates for the program must have a bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant work experience or familiarity with basics in accounting, finance, economics, ethics, and the regulatory environment.
In making the announcement, Chancellor Wartell noted that part of IPFW’s mission is to respond to the educational needs of the community. “We know that many students want to earn an MBA degree, but have been stopped in the past because of the time frame. With this program, we now offer the only accelerated MBA accredited by AACSB, the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business, the premier organization which provides for business program accreditation.”
Otto Chang, dean of the DSBMS, said, “It is a tremendous challenge for the students as well as for the faculty to achieve quality learning outcomes in any accelerated program, particularly in a graduate degree program. We will do everything possible to facilitate and enhance the learning process of the cohort students so that a valuable learning experience is assured for each of them.”
