Associate of Arts in General Studies (A.A.G.S.)

Earning the Indiana University Associate of Arts in General Studies (A.A.G.S.), an interdisciplinary two-year degree, may help you advance in your professional or military career, receive certification, expand your employment options, take the first step toward advanced studies, and build your confidence. Once you have completed your A.A. in General Studies, you may decide to apply to complete the Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.).

Admission to the university must be completed in order to register for classes. Contact the General Studies Degree Programs office for an appointment at 260-481-6828. Please bring official or unofficial transcripts to the appointment. The General Studies Degree Programs office is located in Kettler Hall, Room 145.

A.A.G.S Requirements

Associate of General Studies (A.G.S.) - 60 total credit hours

  • 36 credit hours in arts and sciences
  • 24 credit hours in electives
  • not more than 15 credit hours maximum in any single department
  • a minimum of 15 hours of residential credit (IU or Purdue) earned at IPFW
  • 10 credit hours earned after admission to the General Studies Degree Program
  • competency courses (IPFW required)
    • English Composition--ENG W131 or equivalent
    • Communications--COM 114 or equivalent
    • Mathematics--MA 153, MA 168 or Statistics 125 or equivalent
    • Computer Science--CS 106 or equivalent
    • 2nd Writing Course--see your advisor for a listing of applicable courses
