SCIENCE STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD
(CS SAB)
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, TECHNOLGY AND COMPUTER SCIENCE
INDIANA UNIVERSITY – PURDUE UNIVERSITY FORT WAYNE
The
general purpose of the Student Advisory Board is to address
concerns of the Department of Computer Science, recommend
solutions, and help implement them. A sample of such areas
of concern include:

Effective recruiting of students in middle school,
high school, non-traditional groups, part-time, females,
minorities, etc.

Course
offerings include times most convenient to students
-
Retention
of current students.
-
Design
and implementation of various media (print, posters,
home page, etc.) that tell of computer science and
information systems.
-
Career
possibilities, e.g., with job fairs and alumni panels.
-
Student
and faculty interactions.
-
Funds
for equipment, software, and scholarships.
-
Concerns
about class size, grading standards, homework, examinations,
computer lab/project assignments, etc. for courses.
-
Future
plans regarding accreditation, courses, computing
equipment, network, and software.
-
Effective
delivery of courses at off-campus sites, e.g., work
and home.
-
Serve
as liaisons with the CS Professional Advisory Board,
by attending some of their quarterly and committee
meetings, making presentations, and taking minutes.
