Student Opportunities

Scholarships

The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders has a number of scholarships available on a competitive basis to CSD majors entering their junior and senior years of study. A general requirement for applicants is that they have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better. An additional determination of financial need is required for some of these scholarships. Students who meet these criteria are encouraged to apply. Application forms are available from the CSD secretary in January and must be submitted by January 30. CSD scholarships are funded through the generous support of the local foundations and organization listed below.

Anne M. Balentine Foundation Scholarship

Tuition reduction for a junior or senior speech and hearing therapy major who demonstrates meritorious scholarship and a career interest in working with persons with multiple disabilities.  The Foundation was established by Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Balentine of Bluffton, Indiana in honor of their daughter, Anne, who is severely disabled.  An appropriately inscribed plaque hangs in the CSD department office.

Downtown Sertoma/William Doctor Communicative Disorders Memorial Scholarship

Tuition reduction for a speech and hearing therapy major who demonstrates scholarly achievement and financial need.  It is provided by the Downtown Sertoma Club of Fort Wayne in honor of its deceased founding member/officer.  An appropriately inscribed plaque hangs in the CSD department office.

Psi Iota Xi - Delta Gamma Memorial Scholarship

Tuition reduction for a full-time junior or senior CSD major with a high grade point average.  This scholarship is presented by the members of the Delta Gamma Chapter (Fort Wayne) of Psi Iota Xi, a national philanthropic organization with interest primarily on issues and activities related to communication disorders.  An appropriately inscribed plaque hangs in the CSD department office.

Psi Iota Xi - Theta Theta CSD Textbook Grant

IPFW campus bookstore gift card for textbooks and related class/clinic materials are awarded to a deserving CSD major.  Preference is given to individuals who are members or have family members in association with Psi Iota Xi.  An appropriately inscribed plaque hangs in the CSD department office.

Psi Iota Xi - Eta Rho Chapter - CSD - IPFW Scholarship

Tuition reduction for a senior CSD major with high academic achievement and financial need.  This award is recognized by a plaque displayed in the CSD department office.

The tuition reduction awards typically range from $500 to $1000.
Bookstore certificates range from $250 - $500.
These amounts vary year to year.

Outstanding CSD Major Award

This award is presented with monetary support from the Theta Sigma Chapter of Psi Iota Xi, Syracuse, IN, a national philanthropic organization with interest primarily on issues and activities related to communication disorders.  An appropriated inscribed plaque hangs in the CSD department office.

Other Awards

From time to time, other awards become available and they will be made known at the Fall Student-Faculty Orientation meeting.
